Nearby Southport is an elegant seaside resort, with 20 miles of unspoilt coastline with the largest area of sand dunes in the UK.

There are plenty of parks and gardens including Lord Street Gardens where you can relax and take a break from browsing along this famous shopping boulevard.

Southport also offers a great calendar of events throughout the year, the Air Show, Flower Show, Jazz Festival, Comedy Week and Firework Championships.

The Southport Theatre presents a fantastic all-year round programme of shows and entertainment.


Shaw Hall is in the middle of a golfer’s paradise, with three of the famous ‘Royals’ nearby. On the doorstep, there’s Royal Birkdale, a little further afield there’s Royal St Annes, and Royal Liverpool on the Wirral Coast.

The Royals are boosted by a huge choice of golf clubs across the region.


And why not take a trip to Ormskirk , a wonderful traditional and well preserved market town with one of the UKs oldest and most traditional street markets held each Thursday and Saturday. With over 100 stalls, it’s well worth a visit.

Eating out

And if you don’t fancy cooking for yourself, the area offers a wealth of places to eat, with country pubs, first class restaurants, and a huge range in-between, all quite close to Shaw Hall.

Shaw Hall is also an ideal place to for day trips a little further afield. There’s so much you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Liverpool and Merseyside

Liverpool is crammed with a superb choice of theatres, galleries, museums, boat trips, the Beatles Story and a host of special events and exhibitions.

Public transport within the area is superb as well as numerous open top bus tours on offer. Take the famous Ferry across the Mersey Ferry or the Yellow Duckmarine vehicle for a city tour both on dry land and on the river.

Another nearby attraction is Knowsley Safari Park, one of the UK’s best safari parks just outside the city centre.


Blackpool offers a great range of attractions and activities including a zoo, home to 1,500 animals from all over the world.

If you’re looking for white-knuckle thrills, or a whizz around with the little ones there’s the exciting new Nickelodeon Land and something to suit everyone at the world famous Pleasure Beach Resort.

You can visit the newly opened Madame Tussauds and spot your sporting heroes and favourite stars.

Add to this the Model Village & Gardens, the Sandcastle Waterpark, The Tower, the circus, the Sea Life Centre and you have an ideal day trip within easy reach of Shaw Hall.

Lytham St Annes

Nearby Lytham St Annes is an elegant and tranquil town with aclassic Victorian Pier and a host of chic independent shops, particularly unique boutiques, has a distinct luxury edge.

There’s also the RSPB Discovery Centre on the edge of stunning Fairhaven Saltwater Lake, which is a ‘must visit’ date for the birdwatchers.

And don’t forget the great golf as well!


Morecambe offers a superb choice of shows, music festivals, cafes, restaurants and pubs, boosted by the fantastic statue of Eric Morecambe and other striking sculptures along Morecambe’s glorious promenade with views across to the Lake District mountains.

It’s a birdwatcher’s paradise with the sand flats and salt marshes providing a feeding ground for wading birds and wildfowl.

For the romantics among you, Morecambe is famous for its exotic sunsets!
