The hamlet village of Glasson itself, known locally as Glasson Dock, is a mere five minutes away, a short countryside walk. There’s an interesting mix of shops and places to eat as well as a stunning harbourside walk with idyllic views.  Here, Glasson Basin with its sheltered marina is a two mile stretch of canal walk home to many bird species, including curlew, golden pheasant and spotted redshank.

The village is linked by cycleway to historic Lancaster (five miles to the north), making it ideal for family cycling trips. Part of the Bay Cycle Way, this route extends to Morecambe beach – another family friendly favourite location.

Local Activities and Past Times Lancaster

Lancaster, situated on the River Lune, is accessible by rail from Morecambe.  Also designated a ‘National Cycling Town’ to promote cycling, Lancaster has an extensive network of cycle paths through areas of natural beauty and historic remains.  There’s even a cycle route direct to Glasson Dock, close to the Park, for those who enjoy exploring on two wheels.

The Maritime Museum at Lancaster, the Cathedral and the Lancaster Canal where visitors can take a leisurely two hour cruise across a Georgian aqueduct over the River Lune, feature among the popular attractions the town offers.  However, the town’s shopping facilities, scenic open countryside, historic sites, forts and ruins and entertainment options make Lancaster well worth regular visits during your stay in one of our holiday homes.
