Relax, Retreat and Explore

Historic Hartlepool is a thriving region with many award winning attractions. The Hartlepool Historic Quay, a faithful reproduction of an 18th Century seaport, portraying life at the time of Nelson and Trafalgar.  Hartlepool is the northern home of the National Museum of the Royal Navy which showcases a fascinating journey through time to document the lives of sailors on board HMS Trincomalee, the oldest warship still afloat in the UK and a popular attraction within the history quayside.

South of Hartlepool Dock lies an area of special scientific interest named Hartlepool Submerged Forest.  Thought to have originated around 7000 years ago, and having been submerged as sea levels rose, remains preserved include deer and wild boar bones, flint tools and implements pointing to human activity of the era.

Hartlepool’s beaches are an extra attraction with Seaton Carew, minutes from the south of Hartlepool Town Centre, being a popular destination for its sandy beaches, promenades, arcades and of course, it’s fish and chips! Interestingly, the only regularly breeding colony of common seals on the north east coast of England can often be seen basking on the mudflats of Greatham Creek, Seaton Carew central beach during the summer month. In total, Hartlepool boasts eight sandy beaches along its coastline. Crimdon, South Beach, is a further family friendly favourite, popular for its beach side picnic areas, sand dunes, nature reserves and bird watching.
